~~.. .... .

Community Development Department
651-.490-2279 . fax: 651-490-2931

October 5, 2001

Mr. Brad Hoff
1897 Shady Beach Avenue
Roseville, MN 55113

RE: Variance Application Submittal.

Dear Mr. Hoff:

Thank you for your recent submittal requesting a variance to Section 1012.02B2 ofthe Roseville
City Code pertaining to the fence you installed this' past summer. I have reviewed the
application and the associated information, concluding that the application meets the necessary
criteria to be determined complete. Your request will be forwarded to the Planning Commission
at their meeting of November 14,2001.

"
However, I would like to clear the record as it pertains to your August 13, 1990 minor variance
approval. The documents on filewith the City of Roseville include a site plan that indicates the
garage, driveway, retaining wall, and the fence. The site plan does not indicate the proposed
height, just the fence location. The letter you wrote pertaining to this request on July 25, 1990
explains your request, providing details on the garage and driveway and discusses the need for
the retaining wall. The letter does not talk about the fence, nor its height.

Becausethere is no height indicated on the site plan, no reference to the fence height in your
letter requesting the minor variances, and no reference to a fence height deviation in the approval
letter from the City of Roseville, the previous fence was not allowed to be taller than the 48
inches allowed by the Roseville City Code. It should also be noted that the retaining wall did not
need a variance and was not a component of the minor variance approval either. The only items
approved by the City of Roseville were the garage and the driveway locations.

For your infomlation I have included a copy of the paper work the City has on file pertaining to
your previous minor variance request. Should you have any questions regarding the previously
approved minor variance or the current variance process, please call me at 651-490-2236.

Sincerely,

~ ROSEVILLE

Thomas aschke
City Planner
cc: PF3347
2660 Civic Center Drive +:+ Roseville +:+ Minnesota +:. 55113
651-490-2200.:+ TDD651-490-2207 +:+ www.ci.roseville.mn.us
