As you can s.., my existing driveway is not only steep and in need of repair, half of the driveway is not on my property. I am asking you, the Council, to allow me to build a garage and drivewaI as shown in the proposed site plan. The variance tor the garage s due to the fact of not being able or practical to put the garage on the water .ide of the lot, which is considered the backyard. The variance for the driveway, being thr.. feet off the property instead of five feet, would allow a wider swing into the front doors of the garage. Also shown in the proposed site plan are retaining walls. This would become necessary, as I would like to dig down the yard at the point of the garage and driveway levels to llAke a much more gradual approach up the driv8Way. The existing garage is on the property line. I would like to be able to build the new garage at the legal setback of five feet in order to keep the driveway length at the sixty-eight feet, as shown in the propo88d site plan. Setting the proposed driveway and garage back any closer to the existing house would .-an more digging costs, concrete, and retaining walls. Thus, becoming a financial hardship for .. as I already have five hundred square feet of concrete and fifty feet of multiple-layer retaining walls in the "right of way" area between the .treet and where my lot begins at the top of the hill.
