DRAFT

SECTION 2 - DEMOGRAPHICS PROFILE

Roseville's 2000 Census population of 33,690 was the 18th largest of the 146 Twin City
metro area suburban communities. Roseville is also the third largest city in Ramsey
County. Incorporated with a population of 4,589 in 1948, the community experienced
rapid growth in the 50's and 60's. By 1970, the growth slowed as the community
matured and less land was available for development. In 1999 the population was
estimated by the city at 34,525. Projections indicate a moderate growth rate through the
year 2020 when Roseville will have 37,000 residents.

City of Roseville Population - Actual & Projected
40000 35820 36000 37000
30000
c
0
:g 20000
'5
Co
0
a.
10000
0
1948 1950 1960 1970 1980 1990 2000 2010 2020
Year Projected
Source: us Census I Communitv Oevelooment

Roseville's population distribution by age shows an increasing middle age and senior
population and declining numbers of youngsters. The largest population group is
among the 20-44 age group. The older population groups continue to increase,
signifying healthier seniors and the desire to retire and remain in the community.

City of Roseville - Historical Median Age

City of Roseville - Population by age group percentages

50

50

41

c
o
1i1 40
:;
0.
~ 30---
~
o
~ 20
l!
c
~
~ 10-
~
Q.

~
~ 30
.!:
~ 20
<(

10

o

1960

1970

1990

2000

o

<5

51019

20 to 44 45 to 64

65+

Year

Source: us Census

~;~~~A;1

Age Groups
Source: Community Devetopment Department ! m 1960 1!E11970 m 1980 El1990 l!l2000 I

Roseville Comprehensive Plan - 2001 Update

Demographic Profile -Page lof 13
