During the past half~century, the City expanded from a rural
community of 6,500 residents to a fully developed first-ring suburb of 34,000 in a major
metropolitan area Streets, freeways, utility systems, schools, parks, shopping malls, industrial
areas and numerous and varied residential developments have been established in that time,

In the early years of Roseville, young families settled in the suburb. Over time, Roseville's
population has aged along with the City, resulting in a City with a growing middle aged and
senior population and declining numbers of youngsters. These changes in demographics
have planning implications which the Comprehensive Plan addresses. Fewer children means
fewer students in the Roseville schools. More seniors means greater need for assisted living
facilities and health care dinics. The City must anticipate such demographic shifts to provide
adequate services for all residents.

40,000
35,000
30,000

25,000

20,000
15,000
10,000
5,000

Population by Decade - Actual & Projected

III Population by
Decade

Source: Census &
1960 1970 1980 1990 2000 201 0 2020 City of Roseville

3
