<br />When: If approved by early summer of any year, bus shelters can be installed <br />before the cold weather of the late fall (mid November). It nonnally takes 90 days from <br />Permit approval to completed installation. By contract, the shelter normally stays in place <br />for ten years, with 2 five-year options to extend the shelter, but the length of stay can be <br />amended. <br /> <br />Legality: Bus benches are cUlTently allowed by the City Code, Section 703.05. The <br />current regulations, adopted in 1983, allow a bench (7' long, 3' high and 3 ' wide) to be <br />placed at 1,000 foot intervals along existing bus routes and only in bus stop locations. <br />Advertising is allowed on the back rest of the bench. A $25.00 pemlit is required for each <br />bench and insurance and city indemnification is required. Written permission from other <br />agencies with jurisdiction is required. Amendments to the existing city regulation <br />would be required to allow a shelter vS.a bench. <br /> <br />The Sign Section (1009.03F) of the City Code states that bus bench signs are exempt for <br />the sign code. <br /> <br />State Statute Requirements investigated by City Attomey <br /> <br />Maintenance: Outdoor Promotions, by contract with the City, would be <br />responsible for all maintenance, with a clean-up schedule twice per week and snow <br />shoveling after each snow. The company sometimes does subcontract portions of the <br />maintenance program. The shelter and walkways are power washed once per month. The <br />company also is responsible for repair and replacement within 48 hours of each <br />occunence. Currently, Outdoor Promotions is evaluating snow melting and heating <br />features. <br /> <br />Advertising: Adveliising pays for this service. The shelters have 2 exterior <br />advertising panels, no more than four feet by six feet in area each. A panel can also be <br />installed for City or public use.
