I am writing this narrative to accompany my application for a variance. The reason that I
am applying for a variance is that the existing structure covers approximately 30 percent
of the total area of my lot. In accordance with city code I would not be able to build the
two-car garage that is necessary to store my vehicles. Because of the design of my house
I would either have to have a dirt driveway and the garage I need or a concrete driveway
and no garage in order to comply with city code. I only have a small tuck under garage,
which makes it impossible to fit my vehicles inside. This has caused me to store my
vehicles in the driveway, causing a considerable increase in the wear and tear on them.
Another reason that I need to have a large garage is that I have no storage space, so I am
forced to store things outside. As a result of my wife's daycare business there are many
bicycles and toys that are outside. I feel that there is no question that a large garage is a
necessary addition, and I think that my neighbors would appreciate it if I were able to
store all of my cars and other possessions in a garage as opposed to the driveway.

Robert Lindholm
