Work Experience: I spent 33 years on the S1. Paul Fire Dept., 25 years as Captain). During the
last 20 years on the Fire Dept. I also operated a home remodeling business on my off time. I
continued that business, on a full time basis, for approx. six years when I went into the home
inspection business. In 1988 I started doing inspections for local cities requiring Time of
Salerrruth in Sale of Housing inspections. I am licensed in fIVe of the seven cities in the Metro
area requiring this type of inspection. Four of these cities require an examination to be licensed.
(St Louis Park recently change to using city employees to do the inspections). I also do private
inspection for clients buying homes
Education: High school graduate. I attended numerous classes (college and other) pertaining to
both Fire Dept related work and dealing with personnel type concerns. In the position of Captain
on the Fire Dept it was necessary to deal with personnel from a supervisory standpoint. Public
relations entered into that job description as well. Many classes and seminars were required to
aquaint all Fire Dept. personnel with housing layouts and concerns, many ofthem relating to
types of problems (chemicals, gas, etc.) that may be related to a fire or health concern in homes
or buildings.

To maintain the Time of Sale license, a minimum of twenty hours of continuing education has to
be completed each year. I am a member of Minnesota SOCiety of Housing Inspectors (MSHI).
This organization works with the cities requiring Time of Sale & Truth in Sale of Housing
inspections. I have served as Vice President of this organization. I also am a member of the
National Association of Housing Inspectors (NAHI). It was started as a vehicle for purchasing
Insurance. The National headquarters are in the Metro area.

The largest housing association is the American Society of Housing Inspectors (ASHI). Nation
wide there are over three thousand members. To become a member an individual must pass a
four hour exam containing over two hundred questions. A minimum of twenty hours per year of
continuing education Is required to maintain membership. I average over thirty hour a year in
continuing education. I am past president of the local chapter of ASH\.

Civic and Volunteer Activities (past and present):
I served for a number of years as a Cub Scout Master, Board member and Merit Badge
Counselor (Electrical and Plumbing), a Committee member of City of st. Paul Parks. and have
been a 35 year volunteer for Como Zoo in st. Paul (and
still involved).

Reasons for wanting to serve as a member of newly created Housing & Redevelopment
Authority:
I have been interested in anything to do with housing since I was a youngster. My grandfather
was a carpenter, my father a neighborhood handyman in his spare time and I became his
assistant at an early age. Along with my remodeling business I purchased and re-habbed a
number of houses. I feel that my years of experience oftaking apart, and putting together, older
homes gives me an area of expertise that would be valuable. Also, my years of inspecting
homes, both older and newer, has given me a wide range of experience.

Role of being a member of the Housing & Redevelopment Authority:
Creating a program that would educate homeowners regarding possible problems existing in
older homes (the vintage of many homes existing in the City of Roseville). Many
concerns/problems in these homes can be easily taken care of by the homeowner (once they are
aware of them). They should be made aware of Items that are safety issues. This could reduce
the number of problems that come up at the time of sale. I strongly feel that the program should
be both educational and informational for the homeowners of Roseville.
