DRAFT Regular City Council Meeting <br />Monday, November 17, 2014 <br />Page 10 <br />1 pointment in being lectured by others on the City Council about her positions. <br />2 Councilmember McGehee stated that the clubhouse asset was there and expressed <br />3 her interest in seeing it maintained or upgraded, opining that it served the com- <br />4 munity well. <br />5 <br />6 To avoid any misconceptions regarding the current Enterprise Fund status of the <br />7 facility and golf course, Chair Holt emphasized that no tax dollars are being used <br />8 for this purpose, and it actually generated some revenue; but in looking at signifi- <br />9 cant capital improvements needed, there was insufficient revenue to account for <br />10 large capital expenditures such as a club house. Chair Holt advised that the City <br />11 Council that the Commission would return with the information as requested. <br />12 <br />13 Mayor Roe suggested that those options provide multiple options, including pull- <br />14 ing in a new mobile home as contemplated by Councilmember Willmus to those <br />15 suggestions brought forward by Councilmember Etten. Mayor Roe asked that all <br />16 components of those options, including costs and any other operational aspects, <br />17 be compiled by the Commission and brought back to the City Council for further <br />18 discussion. <br />19 <br />20 Enhanced Volunteer Participation <br />21 Commissioner Diedrick thanked the City Council for hiring the City’s Volunteer <br />22 Coordinator Kelly O’Brien, who had provided a volunteer update at their Decem- <br />th <br />23 ber 6 Commission meeting. Commissioner Diedrick noted the value Ms. <br />24 O’Brien had already brought to the City’s efforts, including receiving a grant for a <br />25 database and a volunteer to work with the database; and her tracking of volun- <br />26 teers, their time, types of jobs available, and matching community volunteers <br />27 skills and preferences, as well as nurturing volunteers already being utilized by <br />28 various and multiple citywide departments. Commissioner Diedrick noted the <br />29 value in engaging the community volunteer force and Ms. O’Brien’s connections <br />30 and networking with other state-wide volunteer coordinators. <br />31 <br />32 Councilmember Willmus thanked the Parks & Recreation Commission for their <br />33 advocacy for the Volunteer Coordinator and prompting the City Council to hire <br />34 that position, and the resulting positive city-wide implications. From his perspec- <br />35 tive, Councilmember Willmus opined that the Commission got more things right <br />36 than wrong; and emphasized that it was not the Commission’s job to worry about <br />37 things, but to bring them to the City Council’s attention, at which time it was up <br />38 to the City Council to decide which way to go. <br />39 <br />40 Councilmember McGehee concurred with Councilmember Willmus’ comments; <br />41 and also thanked City Manager Trudgeon for pursuing the hire of Ms. O’Brien; <br />42 opining that she was serving the community well. <br />43 <br />10.Presentations <br />44 <br />45 <br /> <br />
