<br />r <br /> <br />It ~\ <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />TO: Terry Kramer, Assistant City Engineer <br />FROM: Bruce Ryden, Fire llarshal ~~ <br />SUBJECT: Coventry ~ 2800 North Snelling Avenue <br /> <br />On thi~ date Fire Cnlef Floyd LeCuyer and I met w1th the representativ~s <br />of the Canadian Financial Corporation, IHndsor Faricy Architects and tlr. <br />Gene Parranto . property owner, with regard to the fire service require- <br />ments for the Coventry Project as pro~osed and which will appear before <br />the April 7th Planning Comm1ss1on meeting. <br /> <br />The parties to the project were concerned over the fire deparnment1s <br />requirement of total sprinklerlng of all buildings in the co~lex and <br />as a result have propo~ed a number of alternate~ to the complete <br />sprinklering of all buildings. <br /> <br />The ~~,ern?tes to that sprinklering are as follows: <br /> <br />2 and 3 story low-risc buildings <br /> <br />1. the third floor of all three story buildings shall be <br />completely sprinklered, including corricors and apartment <br />units themselves. The only areas that are permitted to <br />not be sprinklered are small linen closet type of areas. <br /> <br />2. the fHe and $moke (i:tector systems in these buildings <br />shall be tied back to Q panel 1n the seven story main <br />enunciator area and shall indicate 2 zones north conplex p <br />south complex <br /> <br />3. thare shall be a visual outdoor ind1cator llght <br />(red beacon ray) on all 2 and 3 story bU1ldlngs to <br />definitively show which building i~ the north or SQuth <br />COMplex is in alann stage. <br /> <br />4. the exterior of the 2 and 3 story buildings shall <br />have a bric~ wainscot up to the top of the first floor <br />level in order to reducp the anount of probability of <br />an external fire i.e. from barbecue or rubbish extending <br />up the exterior of the building and into other apartment <br />units. <br /> <br />5. Drovtde a minimum of 10 feet distance between the 2 <br />and 3 story bU11dlnos or a rated exterior wall en the <br />3 story building where it abuts the 2 story building. <br />
