Musty (CharretteCenter.com)" <petermusty@charrettecenter.com>
Organization: CharretteCenter.eom Ine
To: Tom@IntennediaArts.org

Tom - I m going to keep pressing Chuck to visit in June. I just received a quick response within another email message
loop from him that seemed as though he would be up for that. This might the best tactic we have now besides a good
application from Roseville.

On that note - why wait?

Here is a good outline for Roseville application. Keep it in you pocket - you might consider adding to it or editing it and
then forwarding it to Roseville if Chuck does not come forth with a more formal application.

Invitational Letter - from you and the point person in Roseville - addressed to the Dean Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk of the
University of Miami School of Architecture and Chuck Bohl and 2002 Fellows of the Knight Program in Community
Building. This could more sensitively include some of the angles I wrote about in my letter about why Roseville presents a
great opportunity for the Knight Charrette. You may want to write this.

2

Base Map - ONE base map showing the project boundaries clearly outlined. The boundaries should be of simple
geometry - not strictly drawn along property lines or roadways. The charrette will create a detailed Area Vision Plan - no
be a free design process for one or two malls. The community fabric around the redevelopment areas will be as important
as the developments themselves - even if nothing is recommended for them

3

Study Area Description - mentions current mix and ages of buildings, uses, acreage, past planning, existing zoning
(generalized) and current initiatives. Important: mention how the charrette will line up with current initiatives. It is crucial
that this process complements current initiatives, not competes with them.

~)

Letters of Support - from as many important agencies (public) and individual stakeholders & landowners (private) as
possible. These letters should show some understanding of the process, what level of involvement they can contribute,
and what level of support they can give to implementation. The top letter should be a longer letter from the City of
Roseville. It also could be good to get short individual statements from each of the department heads - or at least the
letter should be signed by as many of the city staff as possible...

5
