The Knight Community Partners Program grew out of their new 5-yr plan
announced last year and they are continuing to ramp up by as singing community liaisons to
eachh knight community, establishing a local advisory committee (see below), and
establishing priorities for the community. St Paul has a large advisory committee that may
include some potential partners for a charrette. The charrette could also play some role
in helping to establish some local priorities for the metro region, which has not been
done yet.

Regards,

Chuck Bohl

KNIGHT COMMUNITY PARTNERS PROGRAM
St. Paul Community
I Resources I

The Knight Community Liaison Program Officer for St. Paul is yet to be decided. Contact
Knight regarding our Community Partners Program at St. Paul.

Although each Knight community is different, there are some common stages for all as we
develop the Knight Community Partners Program and our outcome-driven partnerships. Here's
a summary of progress in St. Paul.

1. LOCAL INVOLVEMENT: With help from our long-time partners, Knight Foundation identifies
strong candidates for appointment to the local Community Advisory Committee (CAC).
St. Paul Status: Meet the St. Paul Community Advisory Committee.

2. ORIENTATION: A Knight staff team meets with the committee for an orientation featuring
a review of the foundation's history, strategic plan, core values and overall goals.
St. Paul Status: Orientation is complete.

3. PRIORITY SETTING: The committee and Knight staff review and discuss available research
and community information including the community indicators surveys and profiles. Based
on that data and the committee's understanding of local need and opportunity, the
committee recommends changes the community must produce in order to improve the quality of
life locally. Knight Foundation will invest in partnerships intended to help the community
realize these "priority outcomes."
St. Paul Status: Priorities will be selected in 2002.

4. REVIEW, IDENTIFICATION AND INTRODUCTION: Once the priorities are established, the
committee and Knight staff use a variety of means to scan the local and national landscape

1
