August 23,2002

City of Roseville
2660 Civic Center Drive
Roseville, MN 55113

Attn: Thomas Paschke

This correspondence is regarding a request for a variance for a garage at 1275 Burke
Avenue West.

I would like to build a garage that would serve as seasonal storage. After talking with the
neighbors who would be affected by this, we are all in agreement that we would like to
see the garage built in line with an existing garage of the neighbor directly north of our
property. (Please see plan) If this could be done; it would not change any ofthe
neighbors' view of yards, trees, etc. as well as keeping everything on the same plane. It
would allow us to do extensive landscaping, thus making it very attractive from the street.

If the garage was to be built according to City of Roseville code, the neighbors to the east
and north would be looking at approximately 48 feet of garage, which they are both
opposed to, as it will not be as attractive and would give that "closed-in" feeling.
Another issue is one of drainage. All the properties to the east of us drain in one spot on
my property. To build a garage on that particular spot would create another drainage
problem. Building the garage per the enclosed plan would eliminate flooding.

When the home was built in 1979, plans for this garage had been approved for this
location because it was a good fit. Because of financial concerns, we did not go ahead
with the project at that time.

I would appreciate your cooperation in this matter, so I could go ahead with the project
this fall. Thank you.

Mike Strub
1275 Burke Avenue West
Roseville, MN 55113

651-633-1334
