Households and Population by Planning District

The City is divided into 15 Planning Districts that have been used for gathering residential statistics
since the 1960's. As families have aged since 1979, the family size and number of residents in the
planning districts have declined with the exception of 4 Districts (2, 5, 6 and 11).

All planning districts experienced growth in the number of households from 1979 through 1993.
By 1993, most of the available land for housing was developed. The housing unit growth since
1993 (nearly 800 units) has occurred primarily because of the construction of senior housing and
townhouse projects, a function of the aging population.
