<br />ANCILLARY UNITS. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Ancillary, secondary, or "granny" units are <br />additions to a single-family primary residence <br />or garage. Ancillary units are encouraged to <br />increase affordability and diversity in single- <br />family residential areas. They create modest <br />affordable rental housing without changing <br />the character and quality of the neighborhood. <br />They also serve to offset housing costs for <br />the primary unit, provide needed space for <br />a teenager or elder family member, or act as <br />transitional single-family housing.
