PROPOSED MOTION: <br /> <br />Move to adopt the following attached items: <br />a) An ordinance amending the Zoning Ordinance to allow accessory dwelling units on <br />certain single-family lots with an administrative permit; and <br />b) A resolution approving findings of fact for the text amendment. <br /> <br />Adoption of an ordinance amending the Zoning Ordinance text and adoption of a resolution <br />approving findings of fact for the text amendment requires a 4/7 vote of the City Council. <br /> <br />2. BACKGROUND: <br /> <br />At"the June 11, 2002 meeting the City Council discussed a revised ordinance to allow accessory <br />dwelling units (ADUs) on certain single-family lots. (See the staff report prepared for the June <br />11 meeting, attached.) The Council directed staff to add one additional condition to the draft <br />ordinance to ensure that ADUs are constructed on eligible lots at the time of construction of the <br />principal dwelling, to ensure architectural compatibility and consistency with the design of the <br />neighborhood as a whole. Staffhas added the following condition to the draft ordinance: <br /> <br />"(b) An administrative permitfor the accessory dwelling unit may only be applied <br />for concurrently with the application for a building permitfor construction of the <br />principal structure on the lot. " <br />
