in it is
that amount is set aside serve needs in the bioscience zones in state.
Secondly, of the remaining $10 million, one-half of it is to be used for out-state
economic development, rather than redevelopment. The Governor also took a
position against funding many redevelopment proposals for individual cities
(Phalen Corridor in Saint Paul, Heritage Park in Minneapolis, etc.) and
recommended that those projects seek state assistance from the Redevelopment
Account.

The Problem: The remaining $5 million of the total recommended $25 million is not
enough to provide a real alternative to funding public infrastructure and special
redevelopment requests. In addition, this program has the potential to be one of the
only sources of state assistance for redevelopment projects in older suburban
communities. Neither does it make any sense to do economic development and
redevelopment, two entirely different project types, out of the same program.

How Can You Help: First of all, please go talk with Senator Langseth and urge him
to support an amount for redevelopment in the state that will provide a realistic option
for suburban communities that need help. We need you, as a suburban Senator
with real urban Brownfield redevelopment issues, to help to make the
argument that there is a strong need for redevelopment assistance in the
suburban areas and encourage Senator Langseth to support a substantial
appropriation and ongoing funding for the Redevelopment Account, administered by
DEED.

In summary, We hope that you wiIl1.} talk to Senator Langseth regarding the importance
of redevelopment and 2.} that you are willing to be the author of a public infrastructure
bonding bill for the Twin Lakes Project. We will get language to Senate Counsel
regarding the bonding bill as soon as we hear from you.

would like to meet to further discuss the City's request at
Otherwise, I look forward to your favorable email
response to the bonding bill request.
