<br /> <br /> <br />440.01 Prohibition. To protect the health, safety and welfare ofthe citizens ofthe City, it shall <br /> <br />be unlawful to keep any wild or exotic animals within the city limits, except as otherwise <br /> <br />permitted by this section. <br /> <br />440.02 Temporary Permit. Any person desiring to keep a wild or exotic animal otherwise <br /> <br />prohibited by this section within the city limits for the purpose of entertainment, exhibition or <br /> <br />show purposes, or as a public zoo volunteer or other employee or agent providing care to a zoo <br /> <br />animal, shall apply for a temporary special use permit from the City Council. The permit may <br /> <br />be issued for a period of time not to exceed thirty (30) days and shall specify the conditions <br /> <br />under which the animal(s) shall be kept. <br /> <br />440.03 Permanent Permits. Permanent special use permits allowing wild or exotic animals <br /> <br />may be issued to the following, provided all applicable zoning requirements are met: <br /> <br />Subd. 1. Public zoos or other institution engaged in the permanent display of animals; <br /> <br />Subd. 2. Bona fide research institutions; <br /> <br />Subd. 3. Veterinary clinics; and <br /> <br />Subd. 4. Monkeys trained as personal helpers and living with a handicapped person, <br /> <br />except that the permit shall be subject to annual review. <br /> <br />4 - 17 <br /> <br />Adopted <br /> <br />, 2001 <br />
