3 to renew 4 expand their existing Interim Use Permit allowing an additional temporary 5 classroom facility at Advent Lutheran Church, 3000 Hamline Avenue for a period 6 of one year. 7 8 Chair Mulder opened the hearing and requested City Planner Thomas Paschke to present 9 the verbal summary of the staff report dated July 2004. 10 11 Thomas Paschke advised that Family Academy is seeking approval to renew and expand 12 their current Interim Use Permit granted by the City Council on June 17,2002. The 13 proposal would expand the use on the site for an additional 82 foot by 56 foot temporary 14 classroom facility to be placed east of the existing temporary classroom facility and south 15 of the temporary office and east parking lot. The proposal also seeks to extend the 16 current Interim Use Permit for a period of one year from September 25,2004 to 17 September 24,2005. Staff recommended approval with conditions. 18 19 Member Bakeman asked if conditions for prior permits on this site are consistent with the 20 proposal. 21 22 Chair Mulder asked if sprinklered facilities are required in a temporary facility (no). 23 24 Member Bakeman asked what age children will be in the facility and where the restroom 25 facilities will be located. Ann Hennesy, Director of Family Academy, explained that the 26 need for space (over 200 students) relates to library and other space. Hours of operation 27 will be 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for 2004/2005. Member Bakeman asked for details of 28 facilities routing to the bathrooms. 29 30 Chair Mulder asked if the school will remain for more than one year (not sure). This is 31 the fifth year of operation on the site. At some point, this temporary situation must come 32 to an end. A firm plan will be made for next year and years beyond. 33 34 Rose Mossan asked if the Academy would be pre-school to 9th, or include 10th through 35 lih grades as well. 36 37 Stuart Swiff, 1253 Josephine Road, asked how long is "interim" and invited more 38 comment from residents on Josephine Road. Neighbors do not want the interim school in 39 this location for five more years.
