Meeting of Staff and Commissioners Stoner and Newby 1-15-15 <br />As a result of the January6, 2015 Commission meeting, Commission members Newby and <br />Stoner met with staff on Thursday, January 15, 2015 to discuss what astructure of a <br />potential ordinance might be if the city chooses to go this route. The following is suggested: <br />1.Establish a Wildlife Management Ordinance that provides a framework for an overall <br />Wildlife Management Program (WMP) to include the following: <br />a.Feeding Restriction/Ban <br />i.To include all wild animals including deer, geese, coyote, …. <br />ii.…….. <br />b.Exceptions to feeding restrictions to include: <br />i.Songbirds <br />ii.Use of Deer resistant feeders, i.e. enclosures accessible to birds only <br />iii.Food/garden plots <br />iv.……… <br />c.Penalties <br />i.Violations enforced –who does it and how? <br />ii.Penalty to include meaningful consequences <br />iii.………. <br />d.Include control mechanismsas warranted, i.e. hunts <br />i.Weapon use <br />ii.Permitting process <br />iii.……… <br />2. Suggested timeframefor the deer population discussion: <br />a)February, 2015 –Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting <br />i.Present answers to the questions asked atthe January, 2015 meeting <br />ii.Gather additional information, ideasand input <br />iii.Determine if any additional questions need to be answered <br />iv.Add/delete/adjust from(WMP)above <br />b)February/March –have a joint meeting with the City Councilwhen ready <br />i.Present and discuss the information gathered so far <br />ii.Seek additionalideas, guidance and direction <br />iii.Possibly ready to provide advice to the City Council <br />iv.…... <br />c)If agreeable, provide information to the City Attorney todraft an ordinance <br /> <br />
