REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Date: December 8, 2014
Item No.: 7.f
Department Approval City Manager Approval
Item Description: Approve Fire Department & Northeast Metro Intermediate District 916
Medical Training Program Agreement
B
ACKGROUND
1
The Fire Department was approached by Northeast Metro Intermediate School District #916
2
seeking assistance in providing real life education for their Emergency Medical Technician
3
(EMT) students. As part of the EMT program, each student is required to participate in a ride-a-
4
long session with a medical response agency.
5
6
Northeast Metro Intermediate School District #916 was impressed with the medial service
7
provided by Roseville Fire and the overall professionalism of the department. They reached out
8
to the department because they felt they could develop a good partnership with Roseville Fire to
9
assist in the training of their future generations of students.
10
11
On June 16, 2014 Council requested the Fire Department make changes to the program regarding
12
length of time that students are scheduled, and time of day the students are allowed to ride-a-
13
long.
14
15
The students will be scheduled for a 4 to 6 hour period between the hours of 8AM and 9PM, to
16
ride-a-long with the Roseville Fire EMTs. This is coordinated between the lead instructor and
17
Fire administration. The students are allowed to assist with only those medical interventions they
18
are trained to perform, under the guidance and oversight of a Roseville Fire Department member.
19
20
All students are required to complete a liability waiver as part of the scheduling process. It is
21
signed by their parents if they are under the age of 18. They are also required to list emergency
22
contact numbers prior to the beginning of their ride-along shift.
23
24
An agreement was created, reviewed and approved by the City Attorney. A copy of the
25
agreement is attached.
26
