Regular City Council Meeting <br /> Monday, March 23,2015 <br /> Page 6 <br /> Mr. Hromatka advised that the NYFS Board, on which Mayor Roe serves, have <br /> considered that they need to increase their fundraising efforts, growing the list of <br /> donors, differences in contracts and grants, and other ways to become vibrant and <br /> vital in the future. Mr. Hromatka <br /> provided a list of NYFS partnerships of communities, school districts, collabora- <br /> tions, faith communities and businesses. <br /> At the request of Councilmember McGehee, Mr. Hromatka noted the need and <br /> desire to fit the senior population (e.g. senior chore program) in with the youth <br /> mission of NYFS. <br /> Mayor Roe announced upcoming fundraisers, including the Mayors Golf Chal- <br /> lenge as the fifteen mayors solicited sponsors to financially support the event, as <br /> well as the NYFS 2015 Leadership Luncheon featuring speaker Dr. Edward Eh- <br /> linger, Minnesota Commissioner of Health, speaking on "Advancing Health Equi- <br /> ty—The Central Challenge for MN." <br /> 12. Approve Change in Job Description of Community Service Officer within the <br /> Police Department <br /> Police Chief Rick Mathwig and Community Relations Coordinator Corey Yunke <br /> summarized updates made on the requested Community Service Officer (CSO) <br /> job description since the previous presentation and changes to the depailment that <br /> included an unexpected recent retirement. Chief Mathwig noted that this provid- <br /> ed additional funding from the patrol division that could be used to help fund this <br /> position, requiring no additional tax levy money for 2015, nor in 2016 with use of <br /> existing budgeted monies and changes in the job description. <br /> At the request of Councilmember Laliberte, Chief Mathwig advised that a De- <br /> partment is currently in the hiring process to fill a position vacated by the retire- <br /> ment, but that the previous employee retired at a sergeant at a higher salary than a <br /> replacement officer starting at a lower salary, anticipated to be hired in August. <br /> Chief Mathwig noted that 2016 funding projections for the position and depart- <br /> ment were still pending and had not yet been presented to the City Manager. <br /> Councilmember Etten expressed appreciation of the changes to the original plan <br /> made by staff, opining that they were excellent improvements in response to pre- <br /> vious discussions and would serve the City well going forward. Councilmember <br /> Etten encouraged Chief Mathwig to keep Mr. Yunke as the key lead component <br /> for community outreach with part-time staff as the primary community connec- <br />
