Department Approval

t'
.I,.,
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Date: June 8, 2015
Item No.: 8.k
City Manager Approval
Item Description: Approve No Parking Resolution for Cleveland Ave
BACKGROUND
The City is reconstructing a portion of Cleveland Ave through the intersection with Twin Lakes
Parkway and the ramps to 35W Northbound. Cleveland Ave is designated as County State Aid Highway
46 and as such must be constructed to State Aid standards.
State Aid standards do not allow parking on both sides of 4 lane roads narrower than 64 feet, parking on
one side would require a minimum width of 58 feet. Cleveland Avenue is currently 52 feet wide on
average through this area (not including turn lanes) and is striped with no space for parking. It is also
currently signed, although intermittently, restricting parking on both sides.
As noted, Cleveland Ave is currently posted for No Parking, however we don't have the official
resolutions on file to forward to State Aid for the purposes of spending federal aid dollars on this
proj ect.
We are presenting the attached resolution to the Council to make official record of the in place parking
restrictions on the roadway. The parking restriction as formalized in the resolution is along both sides of
Cleveland Ave between County Road C and County Road D.
POLICY OBJECTIVE
In order to utilize Federal Surface Transportation funds, the City must post parking in accordance with
adopted State Aid standards.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Approve the attached resolutions prohibiting parking on both sides of Cleveland Ave from County Road
C north to County Road D.
< REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION
_ Approve the attached resolutions prohibiting parking on both sides of Cleveland Ave from County Road
C north to County Road D.
Prepared by: Marc Culver, City Engineer;
Attachments: A: Resolutions
B: No Parking Restrictions Location Map
