grandma made a comment to this man that my mom was sick. Right away, this man
wanted to know why my mom was disabled. He also wanted to know if my mom had a
physical or a mental disability. The questions he asked were illegal, discriminatory, and
should not have been asked at all. What makes the story even worse was that this man
worked in real estate. He knew it was illegal ta ask questions about disabilities. This form
of discrimination violated Human Rights article 2 as well as our privacy.
Discrimination against the invisibly disablsd is hurtful. The invisibly disabled have
hard enough lives. They can suffer educationally, financialfy, with housing, etc. They don't
need angry or rude comments made towards them. The comments are added stress fihat
they just don't need. They are everyday people that deserve the same amaunt of respect
and dignity as any other person.
Right now, there is a lot of attention on racism, discrimination, gay rights, freedom af
religion, etc. These are all very important. But, this topic is different because nobody is
even aware that this group of people is being discriminated against. Why? Because most
people have never even heard of an invisible disability. Awareness needs to be brought to
invisible disabilities so discrimination and the violation against human rights will stop. The
only way discrimination can stap is if people take the time to learn about invisible
disabilities. Awareness can be brought by social media, TV, and radio. If we all work
tagether, we can end discrimination against the invisibly disabled.
