50Community member Hess Jr. commented on how the GC has 3000 unique users annually and <br />51wondered if other sports programs offered by Parks & Recreation fully cover maintenance cost like <br />52the GC is expected to do as an enterprise fund. <br />53 <br />54Brokke assured commissioners that staff have been monitoring operations over the years and has a <br />55good understanding of revenues and expenses. Staff responded to Hess’ inquiry in that adult sports <br />56cover their direct costs and in many cases generate additional revenue that is used by the Parks & <br />57Recreation budget to supplement maintenance costs. <br />58 <br />Commission Recommendation: <br />59 <br />60Commissioners agreed that this topic needs to be reviewed and discussed by asmaller group, atask <br />61force of sorts, whocan delve into understanding theoperations and needs, report back to the <br />62Commission and make recommendations to the Commission for consideration. <br />63Jerry Stoner, Dave Holt & Phil Gelbach agreed to serve on the Commission Task Force and <br />64set a preliminary meeting with staff for Monday, June 8. <br />65 <br />PREPARE FOR JOINT CITY COUNCIL/COMMISSION MEETING <br />666. <br />67Commissioners discussed potential agenda items for the upcoming joint meeting with the council. <br />68In recent years commissioners have shared the responsibility of presenting/speaking with the <br />69Council. Commissioners agreed on the following; <br />70Stoner to talk about Commission community outreach effort from the past year <br />71Newby will address deer management efforts <br />72Doneen will speak about SW Roseville development, Tamarack Park status and Natural <br />73Resource Management efforts & sustainability <br />74Becker-Finn will provide an overview of park building operations <br />75Holt will update the Council on Golf Course findings <br />76Commissioners will meet at 6pm on June 15 for final coordination before the Council meeting. <br />77 <br />PARK AND RECREATION RENEWAL PROGRAM STATUS <br />787. <br />79Brokkereviewed the current status of the renewal program. <br />80Pleased to report that items continue to move into the completed column of the project <br />81tracking report. <br />82A community build playground project took place at Oasis Park on May 30. About 30 <br />83people took part in the volunteer program and helped to assemble a good number of <br />84playground pieces. <br />85The next community buildplayground project is scheduled for June 27 at Bruce Russell <br />86Park. <br />87Work on the west fields at Evergreen Park continues to move along. Work on the east fields <br />88will begin this fall. <br />89The bridges in Villa Park and the boardwalk at the Nature Center are completed and being <br />90enjoyed by many. <br />91The tennis courts that were rebuilt last fall have been completed with final color coat and <br />92lines. The courts at Evergreen Park have a second set of lines to allow for Pickleball play. <br />93The Natural Resource Management program has involved a great number of volunteers in <br />94recent months. In April over 300 seedlings were planted in Villa Park by volunteers, in May, <br />95volunteers worked at Willow Pond. The next natural resource volunteer Saturday is June 20. <br />96Work has begun at the Disc Golf Course at Acorn Park. The course will be closed the last <br />972 weeks in June through July 4. <br />98 <br />99 <br /> <br />
