REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: <br />ITEM NO: <br />G-4 <br />Department Approval:Manager Reviewed:Agenda Section: <br />Reports Recommendations <br />Item Description:Adoption of Master Plan for Pioneer Park <br />BACKGROUND <br />In 1997, the City purchased 4.7 acres of land from Herman Zuettel for park use. The <br />acquired land is intended to be a neighborhood park. <br />The City hired Brauer and <br />Associates to assist in the development of a master plan for this area. The master plan will <br />serve to guide the installation of play equipment, a trail and open space areas. <br />Major goals of the recommended Master Plan include: <br />Preserve as much as possible the natural resources that are in the park. <br />l <br />Provide play apparatus for youngsters aged 3-12. <br />l <br />Provide rest and relaxation areas. <br />l <br />Install appropriate amenities for a neighborhood park. <br />l <br />Provide an open space playfield. <br />l <br />Install a memorial plaque recognizing contributions of Zuettel family as <br />l <br />pioneers of Roseville. <br />Staff and consultants held 3 public meetings during the development of the Master Plan. <br />The following process: <br />issues were discussed during this <br />Keeping as much natural space as possible. <br />l <br />Providing buffers to adjoining properties. <br />l <br />Providing no parking. <br />l <br />Providing skate board area. <br />l <br />Providing play areas for children. <br />l <br />Location of future trail in wetland area. <br />The plan as presented by Brauer and Associates has been recommended by the Roseville <br />Parks and Recreation Commission. <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />The proposed Master Plan is consistent with the Parks and Recreation Systems Plan and <br />the goals established by the City Council, Parks and Recreation Infrastructure Committee <br />and the Parks and Recreation Commission in obtaining this property. The community <br />discussion process is also consistent with the process outlined in the parks and Recreation <br />Systems Plan. <br /> <br />
