REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION DATE: ITEM NO: G-4 Department Approval:Manager Reviewed:Agenda Section: Reports Recommendations Item Description:Adoption of Master Plan for Pioneer Park BACKGROUND In 1997, the City purchased 4.7 acres of land from Herman Zuettel for park use. The acquired land is intended to be a neighborhood park. The City hired Brauer and Associates to assist in the development of a master plan for this area. The master plan will serve to guide the installation of play equipment, a trail and open space areas. Major goals of the recommended Master Plan include: Preserve as much as possible the natural resources that are in the park. l Provide play apparatus for youngsters aged 3-12. l Provide rest and relaxation areas. l Install appropriate amenities for a neighborhood park. l Provide an open space playfield. l Install a memorial plaque recognizing contributions of Zuettel family as l pioneers of Roseville. Staff and consultants held 3 public meetings during the development of the Master Plan. The following process: issues were discussed during this Keeping as much natural space as possible. l Providing buffers to adjoining properties. l Providing no parking. l Providing skate board area. l Providing play areas for children. l Location of future trail in wetland area. The plan as presented by Brauer and Associates has been recommended by the Roseville Parks and Recreation Commission. POLICY OBJECTIVE The proposed Master Plan is consistent with the Parks and Recreation Systems Plan and the goals established by the City Council, Parks and Recreation Infrastructure Committee and the Parks and Recreation Commission in obtaining this property. The community discussion process is also consistent with the process outlined in the parks and Recreation Systems Plan.
