Attachment A <br />�W �rW� Smart Growth America <br />.��� <br />�■��� Mal<ing Neighborhoods GreatTogether <br />Proposal to Accelerate Ramsey County and <br />East Metro Strong <br />To: Jonathan Weinhagen, Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce <br />Will Schroeer, East Metro Strong <br />From: Geoff Anderson, Smart Growth America <br />Date: July 17, 2015 <br />Following our discussion last week, SGA proposes to collaborate with ARC and East Metro <br />Strong to assist the City of St. Paul and Ramsey County, under our Knight Foundation-funded <br />program "Revitalizing downtowns and other regional economic centers for the triple-bottom <br />line." The objective of the program is to help policy makers understand the emerging realities <br />of the new economy, and pursue strategies for economic revitalization that will enable their <br />communities to attract and retain talent, expand economic opportunity, and create a culture of <br />engagement. <br />We propose to conduct two workshops: One for St. Paul (with Roseville and Maplewood); the <br />other for Ramsey County communities outside the city (or, perhaps a subset from a specific <br />corridor within the County). <br />1. Preparing for economic revitalization in the Larpenteur Avenue corridor. <br />A one-day training workshop for leadership from the cities of St. Paul, Roseville, and <br />Maplewood, tailored to elected officials. The goal would be to generate ideas <br />preliminary to creating a vision for the corridor which joins St. Paul and the two <br />neighboring municipalities. <br />2. How to Position Ramsey County communities to benefit from new trends in real estate <br />and development. <br />A one-day training workshop for leadership from the 17 Ramsey Co. communities, <br />tailored to elected officials. <br />Each workshop would begin with presentations on the keys to revitalization of downtowns and <br />economic centers in the new economy of the 215t century. This includes such factors as <br />demographic shifts and changing preferences, their implications for business location decisions, <br />
