Update on Civility Training
Commissioner Carey stated everything has been finalized for the event on Saturday, September
19 including food and the bios for the speakers. Carrie Watts will not be available but she did
provide names of people she could contact with the Library to make sure everything would be set
up. The Library has given funding for the books but it may be too late to get the books prior to
the event. She would talk with the Institute to see if it would be possible to send books with the
speakers or to have them delivered prior to Saturday.
Ms. Collins suggested having a sign-up sheet for those people who want a book and the books
could be shipped to the Library for people to pick up when they are available. She stated the
Library had also expressed interest in hosting small group discussions as follow up if there was
some interest from the participants.
67 Commissioner Carey clarified the Library would not facilitate the discussions but they would
68 provide the space. She had planned for 45-50 people for food purposes and this will be delivered
69 to the Library at 11:30.
70
71
72
73
74
75
76
77
78
79
so
81
82
83
84
85
s6
g
88
89
90
91
Commissioner Christiansen stated she had talked to Ms. Watts because she had concerns that
people were not receiving the e-mail confirming their registration for the event. If this is not
working then the registration portion may not be working as well. Ms. Watts stated they were
aware of the problem with the confirmations being sent but the registration was not affected.
She stated she had also talked to Ms. Watts about introducing the speakers and if this would be
something the Library would do or the Commission. Ms. Watts had stated it would be good to
have the Commission do the introductions because this would show that it was a co-sponsored
event. She volunteered to do the introductions and stated she would be at the Library at 8:00
a.m. to meet with the speakers.
Ms. Collins stated the Library would be handling the check in process since they have the
registration information.
Chair Groff stated he would welcome the participants at the same time the Library representative
does. He suggested Commissioner Carey do the speaker bios and introductions since she has
been the lead of this project.
b. Update on Mental Health Forum/Discussion
Commissioner Slade stated the date has been set for Wednesday, October 7, from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. She is working on the location at this time but it would most lilcely be at the OVAL just in
