2016 Roseville Human Rights Commission Essay Contest Rules <br />Open to students in the 6t�, 7`�' and 8`�' gades <br />Deadline submission date: February 1, 2016 <br />Essay must answer the 2-part topic question <br />Article 21 of the Unitecl Nations "The Universal Deciczration of Humc�n Rights " stcztes: <br />(1) Everyone has the right to take pczYt in the government of his coL�ntry, c�iYectly or through fYeely chosen <br />Yepresentatives. <br />(3) The will of the people shall be the bnsis of the czuthoriry ofgovernmeiZt; this will shall be expressecl in <br />periodic and gent�ine elections . . . . <br />We have the right to vote in the USA. Bict sudly, less than 60% of the Ame�^ican people <br />par�ticipate in voting. Why tlo yoic think voting is an impoNtant freedom and what aNe yoair <br />sacggestions or i�leas to increase voter paf•ticipation irz the USA? <br />Essay submissions must include the official contest entry form, complete and legible. <br />Essays can be either legibly handwritten or printed: double space and one to three pages in length. <br />Past contest entry forms and essays are not accepted. <br />Essay should include at least 2 reasons why you think the freedom to vote is important plus <br />at least 2 ideas or suggestions to increase voter participation in the USA. <br />Learn more about voting and find supporting evidence for your essay via: Universal Declaration of Human <br />Rights or 1965 Voting Rights Act, newspapers, magazines, books, radio /TV seginents or documentaries, <br />personal interviews and legitimate online sources (not Wikipedia). <br />Winning essays' prizes: <br />1 S` place — $100 <br />2"d place — $75 <br />3`d place - $50 <br />Only students and teachers whose essays are selected for First, Second and Third Prizes will be contacted <br />about the award ceremony information. <br />Submit both your essay and the completed contest entry form to your teacher. <br />If you have any questions, please ask your teacher. <br />Website of the Roseville Human Rights Commission: <br />http://www.citvofroseville.com/2276/Human-Rights <br />
