I'
Iodel 7 lagnetic Tape System
A Model 1607 Magnetic Tape System consists of
four Pimpex magnetic tape handlers. The systein is
' self-contained in a single cabinet, including data-
handling and control circuitry; 48-bit assembly and
disassembly registers; parity bit assignment for each
written character; parity bit read-check immediately
.following each character written; longitudinal parity
` bi gencracion and recording at end of block; parity
bit detection for cach character read; and cnd of
" tape sensing.
Each 1607 tape system can be connected to any of
the three bufler input and three buffer output chan-
; nels, and each 607 is indepc :sently addressable. A
number of 1607's can be connectcd to a] 604 Com-
;- uter. Sinnultaneously among these l G07 tape systcros,
F; ` three tape handlers can te reading, and thrce tapc
handlers can be writing. Each 1607 system has thc
; t facility for simultaneously reading from onc; tapc
=` handler and writing on onc tape handler, whilc the
' :;` remaining two tape handlcrs arc rewinding. Any
 .
tape can read either in a forward or reverse direction.
Magnetic tapes of thc 1607 tape system are com-
' pletely compatible electrically u.d mcchanically
:' with IBM Model 727 magnetic tape handle:-s.
 .
,
r,. .
` Rewind Sped . . . . . . . . . . . .154 inches per second
Character Transfer Rate . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .30KC
: 81ock Length . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
