L
September 2, 1970
CASE NUMBER:
APPLICAh1T:
LOCATIO N:
ATlON REQUESTED:

47 i-70
V i I I age Counc i(
County Road C betwe Hamline Avenue and Victoria
Street
Designation of Name
PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS:
1. Qas early as 1968 efforts vere made to rename that portion of County Road C
ieing rpiacd by the new alignmerit north of th railroad tracks between
Hamlin anc! VQctoria. 'Recently th,e Counil 4eld a public h:aring on thn
proposal that the street be rencimed "' (ana Lan:'° . Attached tc this repar is
a copy of the letter from the Vi llage Manager to interested property ownrs
wh i ch i nd i cated that the Counc i I d iscern ed lack af fiota ( agremnt on th
proposed rame, and is therefore sending the rncffer to the Planning CommissiQn
for heariny and recommndafiian .
2. The general policy on th narning of streets in the Village has ben tamaintain
continuity of streef names as relates to their- appraximate al ignment, wheter
th strsi is actUally connQcted or not. As you alE icnow, the Village is
basically dvlopd an a half mile grid system df major thooughfaaes. Within
the ha I f m i l e grid, names are cppl i ed i n both est-west and norh-south
dirctian so as ta be able to find the same street in the approximafe re0ative
postiAn in each of the grids as you mov norfih-south or eastvves# throughout
the Viliage, With this criteria as a guide, ne questions th appropriateness
of lona Lane, inasmuch as lona Lane is exct{y mid point between on of fhe
half mi9e grid patterns. In he pcarticuiar half mi(e grid pattern in which the
subject stret is IAcated, Judith Avenue occupies thafi half mile gria position.
Covnty Road C, ynu wsll note, is at an approximate three-quarter point sguth
af Count Road C-2, and thus does not direetly relate to th posiiian of lona
Lane as it exists betwen Dale Street anci Rice Street some three-quar#ers of a
m i i e to th e east .
3. Examination of the `✓illage map would suggest that other streeis more nearly
in alignment with that of Old County Road C would include V1heaton Avenue
(next grid to the easfi) or Rimrase (next grid to the west), or possibly Woodhill
Drive (3/4 of a mile to the east) which is one block south of lonm between Daie
