Fai rviaw Avanue
'i7a Planning Coanissian has recoaaended ratention of tha proposed
alignmont of Conty Road B-2 bstwoan Fairviow Avenue „! Snelling
Aveaue. Tfiis street is being devalopod as part o.f t}v, arteral street
system and a periraeter street for tha Dayton's 'har, ing Center.
Atachad for your informtian aro:
A map show.ng the pmposed str8et location in raference
the houses on BYuce Street. Also shown on this ma} ara
lacations of tho petitioners aainst this straet and ths
foot line requeste by the petitiones.
A copy of Howard
location.
the praRQosed
HoNard Dahl, qren, Shcrman Goldberg, Ernie Kluegel, Dwane Elliot of
Banister Engineering and I have been working closely wfth Daytaris on the
Shopping Center layout dring the past several maths. Datans is very
aaxious about the street alignment. They invested a considerable amoimt
af money in purchasing the Reiling par cal (the rectangle with the na.me
Sciivatto) to permit the perimeter street to stay as far north as
possible. This northerly location is necessary to encompass as much
parking as possible between the perimeter street anci the center.
Dayton's feels t.is is the only meaningful parking as far as servicing
of the center praper itsalf is concerned.
'a petitianers against tha street location seem tp eel that at ane
tme there was a pramise the street would be further away. Actually,
at th initial stages o£ the Allied Stores planning for development of
iiis site the street was to go right along the south property line of
the praperty on Bruce Street. 'The secion of County Rcad B-2 west of
Fairview Avenie would proceed due west to Clevelad Avenue or the frontage
road on iighwy 35W. Ailied Stores felt it was tmeconomical to buy the
}eiling pares.l for the price that he was asking, therefore, the street
was dstaured srouad this parcel. This is why the street location shown
cro sosne, maps that have otten vry limited circulation was further south
than the prsent location. Daytons felt very strongly that they would
pay almst any prir,e in order to encongass a more northerly location o£
the street to permi.t development of more parking contigtwus to the center
proper.
