May 7, 1969
CAS E:
APPLICANT:
LOCAT 10 N:
ACTION REQUEStED:

509-69
Phaen ix Petrol eum Comp►any
Southwest Corner of County Road C and CI eveland
Avenue
App-oval af Vannce to Sign Location
PLANNING CONSIDERtiTIONS:
1. The Phoenix PeProleum Cumpany oprates an older cut-rate station Qt this
correr in question. They have an existing sign at the corner which appears
be approximately confarming to the rgulatians inasmuch s it is setback
somewhct from eacn of the cor►er rights`-way. The ordinance ,as
you reccll, ,!lows a single sign to be within six feet of th right-af-way
at the corner, but that al ( of the signs must be 3d feet back from all street
lines as is the case in all districts in rhe VIloge of Roseville.
 2. The appl icant proposes to const►uct a second sign approximatEl y f ive feet
from the corner pedestal sign which would be 4'x8' in area. The purpose
of this sign is to denote the price of the gas.
3. It is note-worthy thai in the last year, in the Village of Roseville, your
building inspection derartment has carried on an intensive campaign to make
all gas station operators conform to the sign ordinance. This program has ben
successful and has resulted in the much improved appearance of gas stat3ons
in the Village During the past 10 years, the Village has bee carefully
administering the sign ordinance in the VIlage, particularly as it applies
to gas stafiionse Many fine new sta+ions have been constructed with a
single pedestal sign at the comer ond all othe► signs held back 30 feet as
required.
4. In view of this past policy, and admnstration af the sign ordinance it would
seem that an app►oval for the varince as ►equested might well constitute a
serious lack of consistency The property n question is wel exposed to
Cleveland Avenue and Counry Road C sggesring some question as to whether
or not any nardship exist that is diffeent from other service stations in the
Village.
