A coy of a memo to the Village Manager from the Piblic Woris Director
is atiached indicating the Publ ic Works D irector's general ccommendafiions
regaring the improvernent proposal< As noted in fihe men,a, -lans are very
preliminary in nature.
2. In aeneral, w agree with the concept of irnproving Lexington Avenu prior
to its being turned over to the Countye If, however, such imrovements
require considerable investment on the part f the Village, we slould be
extremely careful to ascertain that the extent of the imp-overncnis are necessary
for tlie road to serve ifis purpose, thus before any final recommencfctions are
macJe, it will be important to a5certain to a reasonable deree fhc extent of
these expenses .
3. We have not, as yet, examined the traffic flow projectians, and f{iese figures
will of course be instrumental in datermininy the extent of the imrrovements
that ar necessary. One item oF concern that ve note at tN;is iime would be
the efficienryo uf occess to fle two shoppin centers at tle intersection f
exington and Larpenteur Avenue. Generally, you will note that the cuts
in the median strip ore alloved only at crossings of public Streets. In the ccsse
of the shopping cnter, Niis nolicy may nofi necessarily be the best solution.
Agpin, examination of the traffic flov will be tle ke- fuctor in determining
a solution to this problem. We vuld suggest no immediate action on the
proposal pendinc more etailed examinntion of the points nted.
;
 ,'
