Hauling of the mat�rial shall be paid for as specified under u�i- <br />classified work or �s directed in the "Special Provisions". <br />Solid R�ck Excavation Defined; So]_id rock exeavation shall include such rocks as <br />are not decomposed, weathered or shattered and which will require bl�sting, barring, < <br />wedging or use of air tools for removal, Under this classification sha17L be included`;; <br />the removal of any concrete or masonry structure (except concrete pavement, curb,_r <br />gistter �nd sidewalk) exceeding one-quarter (1/4) cubic yard in volume that may be <br />encountered in the work. The removal of individual boulders shall be defined as <br />solid rock excavat;.on where the size of boulders exceeds the mi.nimum size stated in <br />the "Special Provisions" or Specific Requirements"o ;; <br />Loose Rock Excavation Defined: Loose rock shall include all stratified rock, slide <br />rock, sandstone, cemented gravel, shale and boulders not otherwise defined as solid <br />rock, regardless of how remov�ed. <br />24055.1Q Blasting Procedure: Blasting for excavation will I1�� proceed �antil the Contractar <br />has notified the Engineer of the necessi�.y so to do, such noti:Eication not being <br />necessary whexe only occasional boulders are involved. This notification shall in <br />no mattPr relieve the Contractor of the hazards and liability contingent on blast- <br />ing operations, The hours of blasting will be fixed by the Engineer. Any d�mage <br />caused by blasting shall be repaired by the Contractor at his expense. The Con- <br />tractor's method of procedure relative to blasting shall conform to local and state <br />laws and municipal ordinances, - <br />24055.11 Bell Holes Required: Bell holes of ample dimensions shall be dug in trenches at <br />each joint to permit the jointing to be made properly, <br />24055.1.2 Braced and Sheeted Trenches: Sheeting, bracing, etc. shall be put in place and <br />maintained as may be required to support the side of the excavation and to prevent <br />any movement which may in any way endanger personnel or injure or delay the work <br />or enda�ger adjacent buildings, or other structures. Where sheeting and bracing <br />are used, the trench width shall be increased accordingly. Trench sheeting shall <br />remain in place until pipe has been laid, tested for defects and repaired if <br />necessary, and the earth around it compacted to a depth of one foot aver the top <br />of the pipe. It shall be the Contractor's responsibility and duty to be familiar <br />with local and state municipal ordinances relating to this type of work and he <br />shall assume the responsibility for compliance therewith. <br />24055.13 Manner of Piling Excavated Material: All excavated material shall be piled in a' <br />manner �hat will not endanger the work and that will avoid obstructing sidewalks <br />and driveways. Gutters shall be kept clear or other satisfactory provisions made <br />for street drainage, <br />� 24055,14 rlaintenance of Traffic: lJhen traffic cannot be diverted, it will be permitted to <br />use the highway at all times. The Contractor sha11 at his own expense erect and <br />maintain warning signs and a warning barricade at each end of the construction <br />� operations. The Contractor shall at his own expense, place and maintain noL- tess <br />than two open-flame torcties at each end of these barricades. <br />� <br />At all dangerous se�_tic�zs, by-passes, and intercepti_ng roads, the Contractor shall <br />at his own expense furnish, erect and maintain such warning barricades as are neces- <br />sary and �required by r.he Lngineer, and he shall place and maintain not less than <br />two open-flame torches at each.
