•

DATE:
TO:
FROM:
SIIBJECT:
M E M O R A N D U M
October 14, 1988
Craig
Rick
Permit Review Process
There recently have been two cases which have brought to light
problems with our permit review systemo The following are the
problem areas I have observed:
1, proper plans including site plans are not being required or '
provided in all cases.
2. In some cases, plans have not been dated or reerenced on
permits to allow proper tracking of construction projects.
3, Inspection records zncomplete in some cases.
4, Inspectors may have not noted a potential problem because
they were there to do an inspection of another item.
5.
6.
Final inspections completed and Certificate of Occupancies
issued without checking for items required as part of zoning
approvals.
There is confusion about shoreline ordinance requirements
and procedure:s, especially if variances az involved.
I want to emphasize that the above items do not occur with every
permit application. In most cases, they are the exception not
the rule.
To avoid these problems in the future, the following actions will
be taken:
1. Complete plans will be required before permis will be
issued.
2. Gordy and I will both review and sign off on permit
applications before permitsfoerevi w ing applications.aside
8: 0 0 A M t o 8: 3 0 A N i e a c h d a y
3, When permits are issued, pontinuel to bnote tplans das eapproved
on the permit. We wil
and to put the permit number on the approved plans.
4. Completed inspection records will be kept. A more efficient
method of recording inspections on building cards will be
developed.
