Waldron <br />Rick Jopke � <br />Summary of Material Discussed at the Customer Relations <br />Retreat on December 7, 1990. <br />The following is the list of barriers which department person�el <br />identified: <br />1. The lack of adequate staffing at busy times. <br />2. The lack of time to do a good job. <br />3. The lack of understanding by the �ouncil anc� public of what <br />the department does. <br />4. The lack of backing by the Council. <br />�. The fact that there are more eyes out in the community <br />identi�ying problems �han there are hands within the <br />department to correct the problems. <br />6. The fact that it is difficult to set priorities because <br />7. <br />� <br />every�h3ng is h�gh priority. <br />The fact that the City's ordinances are difficult to expTain <br />and enforce. <br />The lack of organized information t�a educate the public <br />including ordinances, instructians, and procedures. <br />The following solutions were suggested to deal with the barrie��s: <br />1. Mor� staff is needed to meet all �of the priority areas <br />identified. Craig and Rick will continue to pursue <br />� additional s�aff through the reorganization and budget <br />process. Other staff inembers should make s�aggestions to <br />Rick and Craig concerning how additional personnel can be <br />provided on a self-sufficient basis. <br />2. Additiona�. public educati�n of the accomplishments of the <br />department should be carried out. This will be accomplis�ed <br />by providing a year end report for the City's newsletter. <br />Additional public education ma�erial should be developed and <br />available at the counter. Merrilee will work to organize <br />the coun�er information. <br />3. The City code shauld be revised to be more clear and more <br />easily enforcQd. Rick and Marty will work on reviewing the <br />code to identify areas which need to be clarified or <br />eliminated. <br />4.
