Such facilities may include a congregate meals program in a <br />common dining area, but exclude institutional care such as medical or nursing care and are <br />distinguished from assisted living or nursing homes. <br />SERVICES, PERSONAL: See retail, general. <br />SETBACK: The minimuin distance by which any building or structure must be separated from a street <br />right-of-way, lot line, or ordinary high water level. Also known as "required yard." <br />SETBACK, FRONT: The minimum distance by which any building or structure must be separated <br />from the front lot line. <br />SETBACK, REAR: The minimum distance by which any building or structure must be separated from <br />the rear lot line. In the case of an irregular, triangular or gore-shaped lot, a line 10 feet in length <br />entirely within the lot, parallel to and most distant froin the front lot line shall be considered to be the <br />rear lot line for the purpose of determining the rear yard setback. <br />SETBACK, SIDE: The minimum distance by which any building or structure must be separated from <br />the side lot line. <br />SHRUB: A low, usually several stemmed, woody plant. <br />SIDEWALK: The portion of the street between the curb line and the adjacent property line intended <br />for the use of pedestrians. <br />SIGN: A name, identification, description, display, illustration, or device which is affixed, painted, or <br />represented directly or indirectly upon the outside of a building, structure, or piece of land and which <br />directs attention to an object, product, place, activity, person, institution, organization, or business. A <br />sign shall be considered as a structure or a part of a structure for the purpose of applying yard and <br />height regulations. Official court or public notices, or any flag, emblem, or insignia of a nation, <br />political unit, school, or religious group, shall not be considered a sign under this ordinance. See <br />Section 1010.02 for additional sign definitions. <br />SITE: A lot or group of adjacent lots intended, designated, or approved to function as an integrated <br />unit, that is proposed for development in accord with the provisions of this Code and is in a single <br />ownership or has multiple owners, all of whom execute a joint application for development. <br />SPORTS CLUB: See health club. <br />SOLAR ACCESS: A view of the sun, from any point on the collector surface, that is not obscured by <br />any vegetation, building, or object located on parcels of land other than the parcel upon which the solar <br />collector is located, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM Standard time on any day of the year. <br />SOLAR COLLECTOR: A device, structure or a part of a device or structure for which the primary <br />purpose is to transform solar radiant energy into thermal, mechanical, chemical, or electrical energy. <br />SOLAR COLLECTOR SURFACE: Any part of a solar collector that absorbs solar energy for use in <br />the collector's energy transformation process. Collector surface does not include frames, supports and <br />mounting hardware. <br />SOLAR DAYLIGHTING: A device specifically designed to capture and redirect the visible portion of <br />the solar spectrum, while controlling the infrared portion, for use in illuminating interior building <br />spaces in lieu of artificial lighting. <br />SOLAR ENERGY: Radiant energy received from the sun that can be collected in the form of heat or <br />light by a solar collector. <br />SOLAR ENERGY DEVICE: A system or series of inechanisms designed primarily to provide heating, <br />to provide cooling, to produce electrical power, to produce mechanical power, to provide solar <br />daylighting or to provide any combination of the foregoing by means of collecting and transferring <br />solar generated energy into such uses either by active or passive means. Such systems may also have <br />the capability of storing such energy for future utilization. Passive solar systems shall clearly be <br />designed as a solar energy device such as a trombe wall and not merely a part of a normal structure <br />such as a window. <br />SOLAR ENERGY EASEMENT: See renewable energy easement. <br />
