i�� <br />� <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Department Approval <br />Item Description: Human Rights Essay Contest Winners <br />Date: May 9, 2016 <br />Item No.: 6.a <br />City Manager Approval <br />�� "� � <br />BACKGROUND <br />Each year the Human Rights Commission holds an essay contest for sixth, seventh and eighth <br />grade students within the Roseville Area School District boundaries. This year 113 students from <br />RAMS, Emmet D. Williams and Parkview Center schools entered the contest. Commissioners <br />conducted an anonymous review of the essays. Names of the students were not known until after <br />the winners were selected. <br />This year we asked students: <br />We have the right to vote in the USA. But sadly, less than 60% of the American people <br />participate in voting.
