REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />25-16 <br />Date: <br />Item No.: <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Acceptance of a Conservation Partners Legacy Grant for Langton Lake Park <br />BACKGROUND <br />1 <br />The Parks and Recreation Department has received notice of being awarded a Conservation Partners <br />2 <br />Legacy (CPL) Grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for Phase II Buffer Habitat <br />3 <br />Restoration at Langton Lake Park. The application is attached. <br />4 <br />5 <br />The proposed project will restore approximately 26 acres of forested wetland and oak forest. The <br />6 <br />amount awarded was $95,415. There were 14 eligible CPL grant applications received for a total of <br />7 <br />$2,560,000. Of those, 12 grants for a total of $2,040,000 were funded. <br />8 <br />9 <br />The next step in the process is for the DNR to give final approval to a work plan, describing the specific <br />10 <br />work and how it will be done. This is currently being developed. <br />11 <br />12 <br />It has been with anticipation of the Park and Recreation Renewal Program that grants have been <br />13 <br />pursued where matching funds might be required. The proposed project application was for $95,415 <br />14 <br />with an in-kind City match of $2,000 and a City cash match of $12,000 proposed to be taken from the <br />15 <br />Parks and Recreation Renewal Program Budget. <br />16 <br />17 <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />18 <br />This proposal is consistent with the City’s Natural Resource Management Plan, Parks and Recreation <br />19 <br />System Master Plan and leveraging non-city money through grants to further City efforts. <br />20 <br />21 <br />FINANCIAL IMPLICATION <br />22 <br />The grant application is for $95,415 with a $12,000 City cash match proposed to be taken from the <br />23 <br />approved Parks and Recreation Renewal Program Budget. <br />24 <br />25 <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />26 <br />Staff recommends accepting the Conservation Legacy Partners (CLP) Grant in the amount of $95,415 from <br />27 <br />the Minnesota Department of Resources for Phase II Buffer Habitat Restoration at Langton Lake Park. <br />28 <br />29 <br />30 <br />31 <br />32 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br />
