C. Application after Installation: When service connections have been installed, application for <br />water service may be made to the Chief Code Enforcement Officer either by the owner, agent, <br />tenant or occupant of the premises. <br />D. Size of Connection and Meters: The size of water service connection and meters shall be <br />subject to approval of the Public Worlcs Director upon review of submitted engineering <br />calculations for flow requirements. (Ord. 388; 4-22-63; amd. 1995 Code) <br />E. Meter Spacer: A meter spacer with tailpiece couplings will be furnished to the contractor or <br />plumber at the tiine a connection permit is issued. Meter spacers will be picked up when <br />Department of Public Works installs meter after completion of water service installation. <br />F. Notification: The plumber shall notify the Chief Code Enforcement Officer within twenty four <br />(24) hours after piping is complete and ready for meter installation giving street address and <br />permit number. (Ord. 409, 12-23-63) <br />G. Water Billings: Water billings shall start at the time of installation of the water meter or, in <br />the event the meter is not installed, seven days after completion of outside piping, and shall be <br />calculated upon the minimum quarterly rate prorated on a monthly basis. (Ord. 455, 2-8- 65; <br />amd. 1990 Code) <br />801.7 : LOCATION AND INSPECTION OF SHUTOFF BOX PRIOR TO <br />EXCAVATION: <br />Before any grading or excavation is started, the water shutoff box shall be located and checked for <br />damage by the contractor. Location ties will be furnished by the Chief Code Enforcement Officer at <br />the time connection permit is issued. If the shutoff box cannot be located or is found bent or in a <br />damaged condition, the Public Works Director is to be called at once. The contractor assumes all <br />responsibility for damage to shutoff box unless the Public Works Director certifies that damage <br />existed before excavation or grading started. (1990 Code; amcl. 1995 Code) <br />801.8 : EXCAVATION AND CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS: <br />A. Permit Required: No excavation shall be made until a permit for the connection has been <br />issued. <br />B. Separate Trenches; Exception: No water service pipe or water connection shall be installed in <br />the same trench or closer than ten feet horizontally to a sewer trench or drain laid, or to be laid, <br />either in the street or in private property, except that the water pipe on private property may be <br />in a common trench with a sewer drain approved by the Public Works Director. The horizontal <br />distances between the sewer pipe and the water service is at least ten feet at the property line <br />and that the water service pipe approaches the sewer trench at an angle with the property line <br />of not less than 45 degrees and having bends with not less than three foot radius. <br />C. Conditions for Single Trench: Where it is desired to lay the water service pipe and the <br />building drain or building sewer pipe less than ten feet apart, the water service pipe shall be <br />above the sewer pipe and, unless impractical, it shall be placed at least two feet above the <br />sewer and on a solid shelf excavated at one side of the trench. <br />D. Sewer Pipe: The sewer pipe shall be constructed of substantial material which is corrosion- <br />resistant and installed so as to remain watertight as approved by the Public Works Director. <br />E. Water Service Pipe: The water service pipe shall be watertight and corrosion resistant of a <br />material approved by the Public Works Director. <br />F. Foundation and Backfill: In all cases precautions shall be taken to assure a firm foundation <br />for the pipes. The intervening space between the pipes shall be backfilled with compact <br />
