From:Lisa Wedell Ueki
To:Carolyn Curti
Subject:Re: Forward Into Light
Date:Thursday, May 12, 2016 11:29:39 AM
Hi Carolyn,
Here is the current plan:
First, the program will be entitled, “Votes for Women Film Fest”. We will be showing two
short documentary films. The venue is the Roseville library on Hamline Avenue in
Roseville in their large community room. The event is being held on August 18th from 7:00
to 8:30 p.m. in celebration of the ratification of the 19th Amendment
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nineteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution>,
which granted women the right to vote.
The first film is entitled, “Inez Milholland, Forward into Light”. This 15-minute documentary
film tells the story of American icon, Inez Milholland
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inez_Milholland> whoionbroke convention with her striking
conscience advocating for gender equality, pacifism, racial justice, unions and free speech
in the early Twentieth Century. She became the voice of suffrage. In 1916 she crossed the
country, giving 50 speeches in 28 days. Pushing through exhaustion and anemia she fell at
the podium, October 23,1916 in Blanchard Hall, Los Angeles. She was taken to Good
Samaritan Hospital where she died a month later at age 30. Her last public sentence,
“President Wilson, how long must women wait for liberty?”
The second documentary is entitled, “Votes for Women” produced by the National
Women’s History Project. The 20-minute video with archival photos, newsreels, live action
and music bring the magnificent campaign to win the vote alive.
Before our actual program begins, we would like to show a YouTube video entitled, One
Fine Day” <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BFXfvP0dH4> .
Our speaker for the event will be Ramsey County Commissioner Mary Jo McGuire.
Let me knw if you have any additional questions about it.
Most warmly,
