B <br />Essay Contest Questions <br /> <br />Background <br />At the June meeting, the commission appointed Elizabeth Hansel, Gabe Cederberg and Edward <br />Johnson to a subcommittee to identify potential essay contest questions. The essay questions are <br />distributed to schools in late August, in time for teachers to incorporate into their curriculum. <br /> <br /> <br />1.Prejudice and stereotypes affect the way we perceive and interact with each other, even <br /> and how do they damage <br />human rights? Where in your life have you seen prejudice and/or stereotypes, and how <br />has seeing/experiencing that affected you personally? <br />Reference the US Constitution, the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, or the <br />Bill of Rights in your answer. <br /> <br />2.Have you experienced or witnessed discrimination? Have you or someone you know <br />intervened in a case of discrimination? Describe your experience with discrimination and <br />relate the case to these documents which speak to such violations. <br /> <br />Reference the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the U.S. Bill of Rights, or the <br />Minnesota Human Rights Act.
