Workshops for Home Owners and Residents – Spring 2016 and Fall 2016
Spring 2016
Wed., March 2 • 7 - 8 pm & Wed., March 9 • 7 - 8 pm • “Solar Power Hour”
Attendance: March 2 – 7; March 9 - 35
Presented by Dathan Lythgoe, Solar Program Coordinator for the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA)
This one-hour seminar gave an overview of how PV systems work, outlined the financial benefits, described the solar
installation process, and identified available financing options. This program was co-sponsored by the MREA, the City of
Roseville, and the Ramsey County Library.
Sat., April 16 • 10:30 am – 12:30 pm & Wed., April 27 • 6:00 – 8:00 pm • “Ask the Expert”
Attendance: April 16 – 20; April 27 - 12
Modeled after the Ask the Expert sessions at the Home and Garden Fair, this mini resource fair brought together experts
from 5 areas (gardening, home improvement, first-time home buyer, home environment health hazards, and senior
resources) who provided resources and responded to attendees’ specific questions. As part of the event, we also invited
several organizations to provide information for a resource table. Both the experts and attendees found the event
worthwhile, however, the exhibitors would have preferred being part of a larger event with more foot traffic.
Fall 2016
Thurs., Sept 15 • 3:00 – 4:30 pm & Sat., Sept 24 • 11:00 am – 12:30 pm • “Bulb Care and Fall Yard Clean-up”
Attendance: Sept 15: 8; Sept 24: 11
Presented by Ramsey County Master Gardener Roxanne Eagan, this workshop focused on the Top 10 Yard Care Tasks that
should be completed before the snow flies. The presenter also discussed in detail the proper care for different bulb
varieties and the how to over-winter annuals. At both sessions attendees asked lots of questions and shared their own
successes. After the workshops the presenter researched any questions she couldn’t answer and sent the information to
anyone who provided contact information.
Several audience members had recently purchased homes in Roseville and hadn’t yet been through a winter in their new
home so were really happy to have the opportunity to ask questions specific to their yard. In fact, one gentleman in the
audience attended our First-time Homebuyer workshop in the Fall of 2014 has now purchased a home in Roseville and
came back to hear how to care for it!
Thurs., Sept 15 • 7:00 – 8:30 pm & Sat., Sept 24 • 2:00 – 3:30 pm • “NEC – Get Your Home Ready for Winter”
Attendance: Sept 15: 5; Sept 24: 11
This hands-on workshop was presented by the Neighborhood Energy Connection (NEC), our partner in providing free
energy audits to Roseville residents. The NEC did a fantastic job providing straightforward, energy-saving ideas that could
be done by nearly everyone in the audience. They also have excellent examples and hands-on workstations where
participants could practice their window-wrapping and caulking skills! The NEC’s knowledgeable staff answered all manner
of questions and spent considerable time with individual attendees addressing some of the more complicated questions.
Attachment E
