<br />Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />SEPTEMBER 21, 2016 <br /> <br />Commissioners: <br /> Chair Wayne Groff, Lisa Carey, Molli Slade, John Eichenlaub (6:11 p.m.), <br />Nicole Dailey, and Lauren Peterson <br />Youth Commissioners: <br /> Elizabeth Hansel <br />Commissioners Absent: <br />Edward Johnson, and Youth Commissioner Gabriel Cederberg <br />Staff Present: <br /> Carolyn Curti <br /> <br />Call to Order/Roll Call <br /> <br />The Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Chair Groff <br />requested roll call. <br /> <br />Approve Agenda <br /> <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade moved and Commissioner Peterson seconded a motion to approve the <br />agenda as presented. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Public Comment on Items Not on Agenda <br /> <br /> <br />There being no one wishing to address the Commission of items not on the agenda, Chair Groff <br />moved to the next agenda item. <br /> <br />Approve Minutes of August 17 Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey moved and Commissioner Dailey seconded a motion to approve the <br />August 17, 2016 meeting minutes as presented. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Old Business <br /> <br /> <br />a.Mental Health Forum Discussion <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade stated (National Alliance on Mental Illness) NAMI has a 10-week lead time <br />to schedule a community discussion with a presenter. The Commission has held events on youth <br />mental illness and reducing the stigma of mental illness. She suggested the Commission’s next <br />event be on elder mental health because this is different from dementia or resources in the <br />community. The beginning of December could be a good time to host an event because the <br />holidays can be a difficult time. She stated the community is addressing dementia and <br />Alzheimer’s but there are other issues involving mental health and aging. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey asked if the holiday season would be the best time to host an event because <br />this is a busy time for people or if they should look at hosting this event in January. She asked if <br />this could be set up as a series and have something in November and December that leads into a <br />main discussion in January on how to cope. <br /> <br />
