Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />August 17, 2016 Draft Minutes <br />Page 2of 3 <br /> <br />Ms Curti provided information from the Human Rights Award for 2015 and stated the <br />46 <br />Commission had selected a September 9 deadline for 2016 submissions. The application is <br />47 <br />available online. Commissioner Dailey volunteered to take the lead for the Human Rights <br />48 <br />Award. <br />49 <br /> <br />50 <br />Chair Groff suggested a committee of three people to review the applications and recommended <br />51 <br />they contact Mary Bachhuber and ask her to assist. <br />52 <br /> <br />53 <br />Commissioner Peterson stated she would assist Commissioner Dailey. <br />54 <br /> <br />55 <br /> <br />b.Community Conversation <br />56 <br /> <br />57 <br />Commissioner Slade provided an update for the second meeting for the work group of City <br />58 <br />officials, Police Chief, City staff, Commissioners, and community stakeholders to try and <br />59 <br /> <br />60 <br />There will be another meeting next Monday to continue these discussions. <br />61 <br /> <br />62 <br />Commissioner Carey stated there had been discussion about hosting multiple events. One of the <br />63 <br />largest concerns and questions had been about what are the policing policies and what are <br />64 <br />65 <br />community events different areas of the City. The City wants to be able to be able to implement <br />66 <br />measurable goals for the next year. <br />67 <br /> <br />68 <br />Chair Groff stated the next community meeting would include steps for residents to take when <br />69 <br />getting stopped by the Police and also steps to take when the Fire Department is called in. <br />70 <br /> <br />71 <br />Commissioner Slade suggested the Commission consider specific areas the Commission could <br />72 <br />get involved with during the community conversation process. <br />73 <br /> <br />74 <br /> <br />c.Mental Health Discussion/Topic <br /> <br />75 <br /> <br />76 <br />Commissioner Slade requested to move this discussion to the next HRC meeting. <br />77 <br /> <br />78 <br /> <br />d.Update on Essay Contest <br /> <br />79 <br /> <br />80 <br />Ms. Curti stated the Essay Contest information would be going to the schools in the next couple <br />81 <br />and included in the newsletter.
