Human Rights Commission Minutes
September 21, 2016 Draft Minutes
Page 2of 5

47
Commissioner Slade stated a discussion on how to connect people with resources would could be
48
a good event to host prior to the holidays and then provide additional discussions in the
49
following months.
50

51
Ms. Curti asked where the event would be held.
52

53
Commissioner Slade stated they had previously hosted similar public forum events at City Hall
54
and they are about two hours in the evening.
55

56
Commissioner Dailey asked if there were transportation options available for this type of event.
57

58
Commissioner Slade said this may be something they could work with the senior housing centers
59
to have them provide transportation for their senior residents.
60

61
Commissioner Carey stated if space was an issue they may want to consider hosting a daytime
62
event, which would work with the audience they are targeting for this discussion or they could
63
look at one of the park facilities.
64

65
Commissioner Carey moved and Commissioner Eichenlaub seconded a motion to direct
66
Commissioner Slade to move forward with schedule a community discussion regarding
67
elderly mental health for December with an honorarium not to exceed $200 and
68
refreshments not to exceed $50.
69

70
Commissioner Eichenlaub stated the park facility off of Lidia Lydia would be a good choice
71
because it is right along the parking lot and this would provide better access.
72

73
Chair Groff called a vote to the motion.
74

75
The motion passed unanimously.
76

77

b.Community Conversation Update
78

79
the
80
Roseville Skating Center. The initial plans are to start with a small panel discussion with persons
81
providing their reaction and thoughts to the Philando Castile shooting. The next component will
82
be a presentation by the Roseville Police Department followed by small group discussions
83
amongst the people attending. The planning committee is finalizing the questions and topics.
84
Following the discussion, groups will be asked to report to the larger group the results of the
85
conversations. From these conversations, the City and participants will identify the next steps to
86
be taken.
87

88

c.Human Rights Award

89

90
Commissioner Dailey stated there would be two people nominated for the HRC Award this year.
91
