The series will be moderated by Don Eubanks. Mr. Eubanks is a Metropolitan State <br />University professor and Roseville resident. <br /> <br />RACE The Power of an Illusion Film and Discussion Series <br /> <br /> <br />The Difference Between Us <br /> <br />Wednesday, March 1, 6:30-8:30 p.m. <br />Part one examines how recent scientific discoveries have toppled the concept of biological race. <br /> <br />The Story We Tell <br /> <br />Wednesday, March 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m. <br />Part two uncovers the roots of the race concept, including the 19th-century science that <br />legitimated it and the hold it has gained over our minds. <br /> <br />The House We Live In <br /> <br />Wednesday, March 15, 6:30-8:30 p.m. <br />Part three focuses not on individual behaviors and attitudes, but on how our institutions shape <br />and create race, giving different groups vastly unequal life chances. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The Human Rights Commission will be responsible for refreshments. The library recommends <br />planning for 50 to 75 participants. The library has a contract with Dunn Bros. Coffee to provide <br />coffee service. Dunn Bros recommends two 2-gallon servings for a cost of $75 per event. <br /> <br />Staff will promote the series through their usual media outlets. Commissioners are asked to help <br />distribute flyers and information about the series. <br /> <br />Commissioners are asked to attend the showings and help with setting up, refreshments, and <br />cleaning up after the event. <br /> <br />Additionally, the March 15 session is the same date as the regular Human Rights Commission <br />meeting. The HRC may consider rescheduling or cancelling the March meeting.
