Roseville Finance Commission <br />Agenda Item <br /> <br />Page 1 of 1 <br /> <br />Memo <br />To: Roseville Finance Commission <br />From: Chris Miller, Finance Director <br />Date: January 10, 2017 <br />Re: Item #7: Discussion on Citizen Budget Comment Card & Supporting Narrative <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br />During the last two budget cycles, the City Council directed staff to prepare and mail Budget Comment <br />Cards along with a supporting narrative to all residents via the newsletter. The purpose was to solicit <br />input on program spending and the level of support for that spending. <br /> <br />The content of the Budget Comment Card and supporting newsletter article was different in each budget <br />cycle reflecting the guidance of the City Council at that time. The Commission is now asked to consider <br />whether content or format improvements could be made for the upcoming 2018 Budget cycle. <br /> <br />Attachment A includes the Budget Comment Card and accompanying article used for the 2016 Budget <br />cycle, while Attachment B reflects what was used for 2017. <br /> <br />For the 2016 Budget process we received 173 responses from residents sharing their input, while 2017 <br />produced only 37. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation <br />Not applicable. <br /> <br />Requested Commission Action <br />For discussion purposes only.
