March 29, 2017 <br />Item 3 <br />Approve Minutes of February 15 2017 Meeting <br />Human Rights Commission <br />1 <br />Meeting Minutes <br />2 <br />DRAFT FEBRUARY 15 2017 - DRAFT <br />3 <br /> <br />4 <br />Commissioners: <br /> Chair Wayne Groff, Molli Slade, John Eichenlaub, Nicole Dailey, Lauren <br />5 <br />Peterson, Lisa Carey, and Edward Johnson <br />6 <br />Youth Commissioners: <br /> Elizabeth Hansel <br />7 <br />Commissioners Absent: <br />Youth Commissioner Gabriel Cederberg <br />8 <br />Staff Present: <br /> Carolyn Curti <br />9 <br /> <br />10 <br /> <br />11 <br />Call to Order/Roll Call <br />12 <br />The Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting was called to order at 6:01 p.m. Chair Groff <br />13 <br />requested roll call. <br />14 <br /> <br />15 <br />Approve Agenda <br /> <br />16 <br />Commissioner Peterson moved and Commissioner Eichenlaub seconded a motion to approve the <br />17 <br />agenda as presented. Motion passed unanimously. <br />18 <br /> <br />19 <br />Approve Minutes of January 18, 2017 Meeting <br /> <br />20 <br />21 <br />Hansel said they would read the essays. <br />22 <br /> <br />23 <br />Commissioner Peterson moved and Commissioner Eichenlaub seconded a motion to approve the <br />24 <br />November 16, 2016 meeting minutes as presented. Motion passed unanimously. <br />25 <br /> <br />26 <br />Public Comment on Items Not on Agenda <br /> <br />27 <br /> <br />28 <br /> <br />a.Sanctuary City <br />29 <br />Ms. Martha Anderson, 1982 Eldridge Avenue, Roseville and Ms. Kristin Doneen, 1886 Shryer <br />30 <br />Avenue W, Roseville, stated they have been meeting with neighbors in regards to how diverse <br />31 <br />members of the community may be feeling with recent political events. <br />32 <br /> <br />33 <br />Ms. Doneen stated that with her background, one of the things she has become aware of is the <br />34 <br />perception of being less welcome and less safe that some people may be having. She stated even <br />35 <br />though there are policies that encourage diverse communities, people need to hear that this is <br />36 <br />what communities want. She encouraged the Commission to ask the City to consider making <br />37 <br />such a statement and remind citizens that Roseville values the diverse community it has and that <br />38 <br />the City is committed to protecting the individual rights of every member of the City and <br />39 <br />educating residents that Roseville has a separation between law enforcement and immigration <br />40 <br />services. <br />41 <br /> <br />42 <br />Chair Groff stated this was something that had come up during the Imagine Roseville community <br />43 <br />meeting held last week. <br />44 <br /> <br />45 <br /> <br /> <br />
