Regular City Council Meeting <br /> Monday, April 17, 2017 <br /> Page 12 <br /> leading employers in how to work with those diverse groups (e.g. business part- <br /> ners taking ESL students and paying for their education enhance their markets) <br /> creating community partnerships. <br /> Chair Traynor thanked Superintendent Sicoli for getting this program started, and <br /> noted the progress made to-date with Mr. Olson only having been in the position <br /> since July of 2016; and expressed his excitement with this evolving opportunity. <br /> Mr. Olson again thanked the city for their willing partnership and seeking ways to <br /> get internships for students; and stated his interest in further conversations down <br /> the road as the program continued to evolve. <br /> d. Roseville Comprehensive Plan Update <br /> City of Roseville Community Development Director Kari Collins provided a brief <br /> summary of the current update of the city's 2040 comprehensive plan and staff's <br /> work with WSB lead consultants Lydia Major and Erin Purdu in navigating <br /> through the process. Ms. Collins advised that for more information on the pro- <br /> cess, those interested could seek out www.metrocouncil.org/handbook as well as <br /> the city's website: www.cityofroseville.com/compplan. <br /> As to areas of interest for the city and school district, Ms. Collins advised that <br /> would include the city's land use policy; transportation; environmental protection <br /> policy; parks and recreation policy; pathways; and conservation. <br /> Ms. Collins advised that the public engagement portion of the update was in full <br /> swing, including two Planning Commission meetings each month, one specific to <br /> the comprehensive plan update; feedback from and participation with the Rose- <br /> ville Area Middle School "Future Cities" program held in January, and provided <br /> highlights from a summary prepared by Planning Commissioner James Daire <br /> based on his attendance and observation of that discussion by Seventh grade stu- <br /> dents. Ms. Collins also noted that the public kick-off of the update had been held <br /> in early March and summarized some of the over-arching themes heard from citi- <br /> zens that paralleled those of the "Future Cities" students. Ms. Collins further ad- <br /> vised that an online survey would remain open for anyone's participation until the <br /> end of April (at www.cityofroseville.com/compplan). Ms. Collins advised that in- <br /> tercept boards were located throughout the city; with focus groups scheduled yet <br /> in April. <br /> Mr. Olson advised that he had briefly reviewed the plan, and understood it was <br /> updated every ten years. However, Mr. Anderson sought clarification in the dif- <br /> ferences in the 2030 and proposed 2040 plans. <br /> Ms. Collins clarified that there were few changes other than planning for demo- <br /> graphic changes that had occurred over the last ten years; and the Metropolitan <br />
